Q. ARE LOG HOMES ENERGY EFFICIENT?
A. Energy efficiency is a function of the type of materials used and the quality of construction. The Log Homes of the Smokies’ design department will engineer your home to meet the requirements of the area where you are building and Log Homes of the Smokies will construct your home to the highest standards so that your home is comfortable and affordable to live in.
Q. WHAT KIND OF WOOD ARE THE LOGS?
A. Whatever type of wood you desire is available. Most common types are Western Red Cedar and Northern White Cedar, Pine, Cypress, Fir, andEngelmann Spruce.
Q. WHERE DO YOUR LOGS COME FROM?
A. Depending on the type of wood you chose, Log Homes of the Smokies may source logs from the Eastern U.S. such as the Carolinas, or from the Northwest such as Washington, Oregon or Canada. The logs are prepared for your home package at a mill not far from Log Homes of the Smokies’ corporate offices in Townsend, Tennessee.
Q. ARE YOUR LOGS KILN DRIED?
A. Yes! Log Homes of the Smokies uses kiln-dried timbers to achieve a moisture content of only 19%. The kiln process also ensures that there are no live insects in your logs. Additionally, Log Homes of the Smokies uses graded timbers that carry the T.P.I. stamp of ͞Log Wall 40.͟This means that the logs meet the rigorous standards established by Timber Products Inspection, Inc.
Q. WHAT TYPES OF LOG STYLES AND CORNER NOTCHES DOES LOG HOMES OF THE SMOKIES OFFER?
A. What is your favorite look? Log Homes of the Smokies offers a wide selection of log profiles, such as Round, D-Log, and Square. The logs come in a variety of finishes, such as Hewn, Milled, or Peeled, with lots of choices for corner designs: Dovetail, Saddle Notch, and Butt & Pass.
Q. DO LOG HOMES SETTLE AFTER COMPLETION, AND IF SO, HOW DOES LOG HOMES OF THE SMOKIES DEAL WITH SETTLING
A. Log Homes of the Smokies uses high quality, graded logs that are kiln dried. This keeps settlement of Log Homes of the Smokies’ homes to a minimum (usually < ½ inch).
